After running some errands this morning, I drove by a restaurant called “Rickey’s” which serves wings and other items, but is famous for its hot sauce. However, the owner is also famous for being the first person to successfully beat Pac Man, all 256 levels, without dieing. So after walking in and ordering, I was introduced to Billy Mitchell and spoke briefly about the New York event, and Pac Man in general.
He mentioned a movie that is coming out, that pretty much makes him look like an enemy, and the meanest person in the world. Clever editing removed quotes like, “When playing against my family, I win and no one wants to play me,” to “I win and no wants to play me.” He also mentioned how despite popular belief, he doesn’t sit and play Pac Man all day long. He was sent a 360 for the event [the first console he actually had at home], and didn’t even know how to hook it up. He had to have a neighbor [who also owns a 360] do it for him. He claimed that he was used to the original joystick, and that the 360 controller felt different and was harder to control. He still had a lot of fun giving away signed hot sauces, and being interviewed by a variety of sites [including Major Nelson, and GTR's PinkSage]
He seemed like a cool person, and it interesting to know that he also holds records in many retro games like Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Donkey Kong, and Centipede. ![]()
