Xbox Live Cracking Down

image I have been hearing reports of Xbox Live cracking down on offensive GamerTags and Mottos. Two people on my friends list have already been affected including “CunningLynguist” and “YerBallsRshowin”

I am somewhat surprised that Microsoft is taking action now, with both of these accounts getting banned this week. Is Microsoft actually cracking down, or are people reporting these names with the increase in multiplayer gaming via Halo 3? Either way, here is a copy of the message that people are receiving…

“In accordance with Xbox Live policy, the gamertag [GamerTag] is no longer allowed.  Please change your gamertag before playing on Xbox Live”

From that point on, you are completely banned from Xbox Live, and you can’t continue until you change it. The message then takes you to a new page that lets you choose your new GamerTag.

    do they have to pay the $10 to change it or is it free? They also banned CheapyD from the CAGCast for his motto having *itches in it, but only for 28 hours and a change of motto..
    do we think some of these updates we have had lately is implementing some king of back end software to check for these things??

    Not that new as Forced Name Changes have been always been done, feedback does work.

    Yea, I was forced to change my gamertag recently. For several years it was “Jihad Kabob”, but then I was forced to change it several days ago. I successfully changed it to “Jeehad Kabob” and used that for a couple of days, but then forced to change it again! Pretty soon, the only gamertags allowed will be Fred and Barney…..

    Yea, I was forced to change my gamertag recently. For several years it was "Jihad Kabob", but then I was forced to change it several days ago.     Sputnik 006 was banned with this reason… Why is it offensive to anyone??!?

    My gamertag of "Gray Lupine" has been fine for over a year now. I had to come up with that one because the real name "canis lupis" was already taken. Today it's banned??? Lupine is latin for wolf Xboxlive morons!
