I was informed today that College Hoops 2K9 was canceled for the upcoming year. Since we didn’t believe that 2K would cancel its highly rated basketball game, we went directly to 2K for an answer. Sadly, it was not the answer we were looking for, and gives us plenty of things to ponder…

2K Sports has decided not to continue negotiations with the CLC [Collegiate Licensing Company] for the license for its top-rated College Hoops franchise, which would have been released next in November 2008. We are committed to providing fans with high-quality, critically-acclaimed sports games, but given our disciplined approach to the business, we do not believe the current discussions would result in an acceptable outcome.

It looks like the CLC was playing hardball with this years negotiations, which makes us believe that another company was willing to pay top dollar to be the only college basketball game? EA anyone?
