One of the developers at Lionhead Studios, Mike West, posted about the achievements for Fable 2, seeing as he is the one in charge of the achievements. The first thing he discusses are secret achievements: people actually check the achievements for games before they buy the game. Really? Of course they do. He then went on to say that some of their reliable sources have told them that games with secret achievements sell less copies than games without ‘em. That makes sense, because of all the “achievement whores.”
He goes on, breaking his points into categories addressing achievements in different categories like story, combat, simulation, collectors (also known as completionists), jokes, and finally, morality (touching on Mass Effect’s Paragon vs. Renegade achievements). To end it all off, he points out some games that have poorly and well set up achievements. He dislikes Blue Dragon’s achievements for being too hard and “grindtastic,” while Eternal Sonata’s achievements are all secret, so you don’t even know what you’re getting yourself into. Mike then goes on to ridicule Avatar (we all know why), praising Guitar Hero 2 for having balanced achievements but the opposite for Guitar Hero 3, and finally onto PGR4 for having really well done achievements, as he gets a couple every time he plays. Thats all for now for Fable 2 and it’s achievements! If you want to read the whole post, make the jump.
