GameDaily, along with many others, is reporting that recently retired quarterback Brett Favre will be the cover athlete for the 20th Anniversary ‘Madden NFL 09.’  While it would be a first to have a retired player on the cover, at least since John himself stopped being on the cover, it is not too far-fetched to think they would do something special for this iteration and Brett Favre is one of the best QBs of all time.

The official announcement is expected to come tonight when Favre appears on The Late Show with David Letterman.  This may have become a bit of a trend as last year’s announcement was made on Jimmy Kimmel Live.  Perhaps this will snap the Madden Curse because obviously appearing on the cover won’t affect Favre’s next season.  Keep checking back to get the official announcement when it happens.
