Monopoly Pains

By | April 26, 2008 | Xbox 360 |

image As I write this editorial, I shake my head, and ask myself what EA was thinking when they hit "send" on the press release – thus announcing, a sick and twisted idea, Monopoly at a retail price on the Xbox 360. Honestly, how can a company get away with reinventing the wheel, and putting a regularly priced board game that normally sells in the 10-20 dollar range, and feel like people are going to agree with a 40 dollar Monopoly game! As if that wasn’t bad enough, it won’t be on Xbox Live, but no, you’ll need to explain to GameStop why you purchased Monopoly instead of say, GTA IV or Call of Duty 4. Why they didn’t just choose the Xbox Live route is beyond me!

It truly upsets me, since I have been following the game, and information on it for the last few months, and this is how EA repays us? Its a slap in the face, where is Sarcastic Gamer when we need another protest?

So, if the rumored 40 dollar price is true, will you be purchasing Monopoly for the Xbox 360, and if you are against the price, would you be up for a protest?

I am still waiting for the DLC plans… purchase 5 Get out of Jail free cards for 400 Points…

    40 bucks? Screw that.

I’m in the same boat as you guys. I would have loved in on XBLA for $5-$10 but if I really want a monopoly fix know I’ll just find some friends to play with at home or find a free version to play online.

$40 is very expensive but I would fork over the cash IF IT HAD ONLINE!

If they have online multiplayer then I’m buying it for sure. My brother is about 3000 miles away from me and we play each other over xbox live. This game would bring bcak old memories of playing monopoly with the family for hours.

I actually am glad it is a retail disc game. I rather pay more money for a better game and know that it is my game. The whole DRM issue has me skeptical of buying any XBLA games since I have to be online to play them. After 3 RROD you really wonder if its worth buying any stuff off marketplace.

The other issue is HD space. I have a ‘premium’ console and my 20 GB HDD is pretty full of maps, songpacks, arcade games, demos, and TV shows now. I have less than 2GB of space left and cant justify playing $180 for an extra 100 GB’s of HD space.

Some of the new XBLA games are now over 120 MB’s and at this rate I wont have room for many more (not to mention any DLC). I mean just with GRAW 2 all the DLC is about 3GB, add CoD2, CoD3, and CoD4 maps and that is another 3.5 GB’s. RSV1 has 1.4 GB and GRAW1 Chapter 2 is close to 1GB. All this space on my HD is annoying when you have to keep deleting and re-downloading content you paid for.

I’m glad the game is on retail disc. Who knows the game may actually be too big for XBLA. I think the limit is 200 MB? Personaly I’m glad it’s a retail game and for $40 its worth having the game on something tangible that I can place into my 360 DVD tray.

BAD EA why must you suck so bad!

  • Jcnet

This is pretty screwed up, plus I am one of the few people that is OCD about buyign EVERY retail release that comes out. Oh i’ll be buying this one too BUT

If EA thinks they can get away with slapping us in the face with this then I will just pull some strings and slap them in the face with an 82.3 trillion dollar lawsuit.

EA seriously does not want me as an enemy. I will buy them out then liquidate their assets in under a week… Oh and after all that i will use the proceeds I gain from selling all their assets to go buy a cheeseburger at McDonalds.

    What a bunch of jerks.

    ^ LMAO! Classic!

I can’t agree enough. Pardon the expression but Xbox Live is prime real estate for Monoply, one of the greatest board games ever created.

  • http://xenocidic.com xenocidic

I will only consider buying this if it includes a legacy version of the original Monopoly and not the bastardized version they’ve come up with.
