Come one, come all, and see the heroes come back to take on more robotic animal bosses in Assault Heroes 2! That’s right this week on XBLA Today we are looking at the sequel to Assault Heroes. First off, let me say that if you liked the first one, you’ll like this one. It’s the same game with improvements.

For those who didn’t play the first, the game is a top down shooter where you control a 4×4 with several different weapons mounted on it, using the left stick to move, and right stick to aim/shoot. You change your weapons with the RB and LB buttons, and can throw grenades or detonate nukes if you get into real trouble. The game looks quite good for a XBLA title, and has plenty different types of enemies for you to take on. If they get to be too much for you and destroy your vehicle, you end up on foot for about 20 seconds, shooting and trying to stay alive until your vehicle respawns. Each of your different weapons can be upgraded to cause more and more damage, and cause more fun for you.

New to Assault Heroes 2 are a few things, but things that are very welcome. There are new weapons, such as the ice gun, which freezes enemies, and then you can just drive right through them. There is also the ability to hijack enemy vehicles (only ones not occupied by enemies at the time), such as a helicopter. Another huge addition (for me at least) is the ability to use all your different types of weapons after you end up on foot, instead of being stuck with only the machine gun. They also added a space level, which changes the way the enemies act a bit, and made the on foot areas a little better as well. Also, the co-op works now, which is a huge for those who got the first right when it came out, and it didn’t work at all.

In the end, this is a question of did you like the first, and do you like it enough to buy an upgrade for it. Also, for those who never tried or got the original, the original is in Arcade Hits status and only costs 400 points, and this one is 800 points, a hard sell to say the least. This is a good game, better than the first, and good co-op. If you loved the first and want more, or new to it and find the new additions important to you, go pick it up. Don’t forget to enter our contest to play this game with the developers! Thanks for stopping by this Wednesday, tell us what you think of the game, and see ya next week!
