Wits & Wagers Review Contest [Closed]

By | May 16, 2008 | Xbox 360 |

Update: This contest is now closed. We will be announcing the winners shortly!

Wits & Wagers is an XBLA game that features trivia with a dash of vegas style odds betting. The game is played with either four or six players in an “every man for himself” style gameplay. Each player chooses an answer for one of seven hundred questions found in the first question pack (by the way, if you answer all 700 questions you get an achievement!). While you sift through questions ranging from the height of the tallest president or the average weight of an adult monkey, you then place a wager on how confident you are that your answer is the best one available. If you aren’t so confident you can bet on any of the other players answers for varying payouts.

This does subject the game to be tainted by cheaters when playing online, but is still pretty fun for a party-like atmosphere. Although, the best part of the game is when you get to make your stick figure-like character dance around by using the right stick on the controller. Nothing is sweeter than doing the robot in the middle of a trivia game.

The game is somewhat enjoyable, so long as you can trust the people you are playing against, and is a good adaptation of the original board game by North Star Games. The key differences are when playing the board game, you can’t cheat, and have to deal with rounding up about 5 other people to play against, whereas on XBLA, inviting people is quick and easy. It all depends on if you enjoy actual gaming nights with a board game, or if you have been spoiled by Xbox Live and the simplicities of the service.

Do you agree with our review? Let us know what you think, and you’ll be entered to win one of three Wits & Wagers packages, which contains not only the XBLA version, but also the board game. Why pick and choose when you can have both? Contest ends Tuesday, May 20, 2008!

I agree with the review but I think it missed out key features such as graphics and how it sounds.

  • frksho

How do you play with six players locally? Do you need controllers for everyone or can you share?

  • http://www.360Sync.com Devin “DaKing240″ Kofsky

@frksho The game supports 4 players locally, or 6 players on Xbox Live.

  • jake mendez

    the review was spot on

  • AkmGamer

The review is a good one. Its cool they translated it to Xbox Live except for the possible cheating that could happen.

  • http://EnterYourWebsite Masta Blastr

Excellent review! I like it the part about doing the robot. But the cheating makes me feel sad. Mainly because I can’t cheat because I have to use my computer’s internet for XBL. :D

I recommend a star rating and a quick sentence suming up how good you thought the game is.

  • Nascar Dog

    I agree with the review.

  • EricDC

The review was mediocre. You left out what your rating of the game was and the rating of gameplay, online play, sound, etc. The review was really short and I would like to hear more about the game modes, online play. I mean you said how to play and compared it to the board game, but I can hardly call this a review. I’m not trying to bash you or anything it is just that your review doesn’t go in depth at all and is really short.

  • http://EnterYourWebsite ElektrikGuitar

I was a little confused because there’s an achievement for playing with 10 different people online, and if 6 is the max, I didn’t know how it was possible. But I guess it means 10 different people across all your games?

  • Davfer

Well it will be a nice game only if you play with your friends

  • CyberWeasel

The review was good. It sounds like a great party game. I think I read somewhere that it supports the Big Button SceneIt controllers too although I am not sure how you would do the Robot dance then ;)

  • http://EnterYourWebsite TopDogs360

The review was good, but how do people cheat online in this game, and how long does it take to go through all 700 questions?

  • http://EnterYourWebsite Donski

Better question is: Is the game worth the $10?

  • http://EnterYourWebsite Col Hartman

I guess I have to agree with the review since all I have played is the trial demo and know nothing about how Wits and Wagers is online. I’d love to play with the developers in this game although they probably know all the answers to the questions since they porgrammed them in to the game!

Inside Xbox has a feature on this game too. Good review nad great contest Daking.

    accurate reviews for the win!

  • http://www.360Sync.com Devin “DaKing240″ Kofsky

@EricDG We don’t actually give the game a score, its part of our policy on the site due in part because a trivia fan may love this game and give it 5 stars while a first person shooter fan will give this game 0 stars.

As for the review itself, it was a bit shorter than our usual reviews mostly in part because we are still training this intern writer how to post reviews that encompass the entire game. We’ll make sure the next one covers everything.

Trust me though, this review is pretty dead on. The sound effects are minimal, the dancing is the only extra thing you can do while playing the actual trivia game, and we are under the impression that the game will have up to 5 DLC packs, since it says Question Packs 1-6, and only 1 is available right now.

Yet, to really see if this is the game for you, it best to supplement the demo with our review.

  • Big Brother

Good Review! I read somewhere that this game provides 10 hours of quesetions. Is that how long it takes to go through 700 questions?

  • wackysplash

hrm, looks good when i get my code ill try out the full version :D

  • http://EnterYourWebsite Masta Blastr

TopDogs360 you can cheat because they are questions. You could just google for the answers.

  • http://EnterYourWebsite mattism

A list short but overall it was a good review letting me know what the game was about.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/DevinKofsky DevinKofsky

The game supports 4 players locally, or 6 players on Xbox Live.

  • NextMemory

I agree with the review, i could definitely see people cheating but don't really see the need due to the achievements not requiring something like getting every single answer right.

  • Jian Wei

Yea i agree with the review. It seems very easy to cheat in such a game.

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/tateone29651 tateone29651

I had no desire to play this game but that was because I didn't take the time to read what it is about. After reading the review it sounds like a pretty cool game. One that could be played with non-gamer people in a fun drinking atmosphere. I will have to check this one out for sure now.

  • SergioP

The review was good, seems like a good game just from hearing this review

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/shadowdude55 shadowdude55

I definitely agree with the review. OXM reviewed it a month or two back, and basically agreed, but liked it a little more. I'll probably pick it up for a quick fix between games.
