Activision Unveils Guitar Hero® World Tour

By | May 23, 2008 | Xbox 360 |

Activision, the company that made the number one best selling franchise of 2007, now presents Guitar Hero World Tour!  This title is going to include not just a wicked wireless axe for you to slay song with, but also a slammin’ wireless drum set and a gut bustin’ wireless microphone.  These instruments can be used in a variety of game types including an 8-player online “battle of the bands” mode.  As if you aren’t already mad that this game won’t be out until 2009, the game will have an innovative music studio that lets players compose, record, edit, and share music.  That means that you will be able to share your sweet riffs and face melting solos with your friends via GHTunesâ„¢.

Yes, it does get better.  GHWT will offer all master tracks with the largest on disc song selection of all time.  Some of the featured artists will be Van Halen, Sublime, The Eagles, Linkin Park, and more.  To appease the rock gods while playing these artist’s songs, new and improved weapons of choice will be available.  The wireless drum set will come with three drum pads, two raised cymbals, and a bass kick pedal.  They will also feature velocity-sensitive drum heads and soft rubber construction for a more authentic bounce back when they are struck.

The Xbox 360 version of the game will be made by Neversoft. Some extra features that we’ll see are fully customizable rockers, guitars, and album covers.

As we all sit and dream about which songs we will get jam out to, we want to know which songs you think will show up on GHWT.  I’m hoping for “What I Got” by Sublime!

I wonder what the velocity-sensitive drum heads will bring to the table, whether you now have to hit softly or hard depending on the note…?

While I want to be excited about this (and truly, I am)…I can't understand the reason as to why everyone has to make a different drumset. Counting the footpedal….Rock Band has 5, GHWT has 6, and Rock Revolution either 6 or 7 I think. How in the world will the RR drumset be compatible with Rock Band or GHWT? And vice versa…how can RB & GHWT be compatible when Rock Revolution has 2-4 times more buttons?

I can understand that this is how they make their money off these games, but there has to be a stopping point. I'm gonna start building a new room just to make room for all these drumsets…lol

Activistion is becoming like EA. Whoring out their franchises to every last penny.

Meh, I have lost interest in GH and the only way I will buy World Tour is if the song list is REALLY good.

Stop ripping of Harmonix, Neversoft/Activision! Let the innovators improve the genre like they always do without ripping them off and taking all of their sales just because you own the more recognizable name.

I'd like to see them bring in some modern bands like 3 Doors Down, Theory Of A Deadman, Staind, Disturbed, and some other bands to that effect.
