Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 is simply put, another top-down shooter with the Geometry Wars controls (left stick moves, right stick shoots). There are limited types of enemies (in large numbers), and you can use a spread gun, a flamethrower, a machine gun, or a missile launcher to take them down. The game looks decent, not bad, not anything new, and same with the sound design.

The game takes about an hour or so to complete, and even at that short, can be frustrating to complete on the harder levels. The first time there is no level select, so when you lose, you have to start all the way at the beginning. The gameplay doesn’t vary from the simple “you have a big gun, shoot everyone” formula much at all. The only halfway variation is when you get into a vehicle, and then you have a bigger gun on wheels.

The saving grace, what takes this game from just barely better than average, to pretty fun, is the co-op. You and two of your other friends can take on all of the enemies together. As you may know, co-op is awesome, and 3 player co-op with big guns has to be awesome.

Don’t forget that by getting this game you get access to the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix Beta. I’m sure a couple people buy this game just to get access to that, but just a few.

In the end, W.O.T.B. Commando 3 is a competent top-down shooter, with competent graphics, competent gameplay, and co-op play that saves the experience.  By no means is this a bad game without the co-op, just doesn’t bring anything new to the table, and isn’t the best at what it does bring.
