When games are associated with a movie, first thing that comes to mind is that the title will be terrible. Thats not the case with Kung Fu Panda. There are many variables that make this movie-based video game a great family title. For one thing, the movies cast does lend their voices to their video game characters. The game starts out with you in control of the Po, a panda who works at his fathers noodle restaurant. Po’s biggest aspiration, however, is to become a kung fu warrior. The game follows the same story line as the film which is a plus to families who have seen the motion picture.

The graphics are notably good for a family title. Character models look great and the environments pop out at you. One thing that impressed me was the glistening water. Gamers of all ages will appreciate the visuals of this title.

Kung Fu Panda is filled with plenty of boss battles and minigames. At key points of the game you take control of other characters to complete different missions that tie in to the movie’s plot. Throughout the game your collecting coins to purchase upgrades to your moves and costume. Your moves consist of either quick moves or power moves. You can also use combinations of buttons for specialized moves. The games combo system works beautifully, moves that may result from a well executed combo make it an incentive to not resort to button mashing.

A few downsides to the game is that your restricted to local play only. There is no online multiplayer whatsoever. Another downside is that the seemingly addictive game can get repetitive after a while. All in all, this is still a great family title for gamers young and old. If you enjoyed the movie, you will definitely enjoy the video game adaption of Kung Fu Panda.
