Def Jam ICON 2 Rumor Busted

Our friends over at Talking About Games posted a story that pretty much put the rumor forth that Def Jam ICON 2 was being developed at EA. However, we spoke with someone over at Def Jam, and they assured us that Def Jam ICON 2 was not being developed at this time, which therefore dismisses the supposed screens and videos.

The rumor stemmed from SuperiorVersion, who was tipped of by an anonymous source of theirs – who they say they fully trust – and that not only does ICON 2 exist, but it’s also playable.

As you can tell in the screens and video, the game is a very early beta. Only limited characters and stages are open, and there is basically no cpu ai at all….youl [sic] be able to see that the stages picked can be switched in the game. Load times are horribel [sic] too, but its to be expected from a early beta version.

However, we also fully trust our friends, so sadly, don’t be expecting Def Jam ICON 2 any time soon.

    Reading comprehension much? I posted that it was indeed possible that the game was canned at some point, but this confirms that it was, at some point, in development. I went as far to point out that my source couldn't confirm whether it was pre or post closure of the studio. What sort of proof do you want? A picture saying "360sync.com is Wrong" while the game is being played? I can't stand those who cry fake without even asking any sort of questions to myself.

    To be fair, It clearly says "not being developed at this time",,,which does nothing to contradict your findings, "Bor". You should read carefully.

    My sources said the game wasn't coming. Hence, the game is not being developed at this time, or anymore as of this time. Never said the game wasn't in development at one point or another, but the past doesn't mean much to me, since many games and early prototypes get canned.

    The title of the post in question is "Rumor: Def Jam Icon 2 Coming Soon?" However, it is not coming soon, it isn't coming at all, hence our post and thread about a false rumor. If the post had been titled "Def Jam Icon 2 was once in development" then we would not have a problem, yet since it makes the assumption that the game is coming soon, we felt obligated to correct that rumor.

    And where does it say that within your news post? I may be being harsh here (and I may sound like an ass, which is an unintended side effect), but no where does it say that inside your post. When debunking something, you have to take the entire article, not just a headline, which at the time, was perfectly applicable to the information I had. Updates have long proven the above to be true, that it was indeed in development, and was playable.

    I understand adding "However, we also fully trust our friends, so sadly, don’t be expecting Def Jam ICON 2 any time soon." at the end, which I totally agree with, but if theres one thing I learned in those many hours in Journalism class, the end of an article is the least important.

    The fact that the game is coming is busted. It isn't coming. I am not calling into question the screens and videos, but more so that the game has potential to make an appearance on a console, when in fact it does not.

    And Im just saying, I busted that a while ago, via the updates (as it is written as a log, not an article). Your article isnt clear what it was trying to bust. I know Ive come across as an ass reading it back, but take it as constructive criticism ;)

    yet again a great reason to check out 360sync! Always get honesty from everyone here! although i would like a DJ2, the first was close to a good fighting game and the next has/had potential..
