EA’s Dead Space is shaping up to be a great title and they are going to great pains to try and flesh out as much backstory as possible, they really want you to care about what you’re playing.

They’ve recently released another part in their large cache of content, a website that tells the story of some of the poor souls of the Ishimura over the next nine weeks. We’ll end up seeing two stories consisting of eight chapters and an intermission, if you go to the website you’ll see floating bits of dismembered person that will slowly mutate over time into some of the enemies you’ll encounter in the game (the body part will mutate a week before the release of their content).

The two stories are “Misplaced Affection” and “13″ that tell the story of an organ replacement technician (welcome to the world of tomorrow!) who falls for a female security officer and a sleeper cell agent who “makes the wrong decisions for the right reasons”. So far the animated comics they’ve been releasing have been engaging so let’s hope the trend continues.
