Welcome to the “Yes I’m Still Alive” edition of XBLA Today, where the hit from last fall, Portal, makes it’s way to XBLA by itself, with 14 new bonus puzzles. Is it worth it? Let’s find out.
If you have not played the original Portal yet, you at least have heard about it. The award winning single player game with it’s innovative Portal technology, it won gamers over with its tech and it’s witty and dark story. But now we have Portal: Still Alive. It is basically the original game, with 14 new challenge levels, for 1,200 Points ($15). So the biggest question is, is it worth it? Unless you are the most hardcore of Portal fans, or just do not want Half Life 2 or Team Fortress 2, no, it is not. If you already have the Orange Box, you have most of it, and if you don’t, just go pick up a great value in gaming with all those games in there, now for about $30. The 14 levels could be worth it for the hardcore, or those who want to try Portal without the rest of the Orange Box. By no means is this a bad game, or a bad deal. Just hard to justify it with an even better deal out there.
