If you’re at all interested in the state of our industry, you should definitely read these two articles that were put up by Deejay Knight on .  One is a tad old, dating back to April this year, but the other one, is hot off the press.  Both however are very well written and you should definitely read them, however long the latter is.

The first article deals with the solution to the used games dilemma. Publishers and developers alike see no money from the sales or rentals of used games, from places like EB Games and GameStop.  So, that being said, they want to stop or slow this drastically because this means more profits and money into their pockets. There was a specific solution that was mentioned that has us gamers in an uproar.  Hopefully, the masses will hear us and agree that companies should not use this proposed solution as it will kill the gaming industry.  Rather, Deejay Knight’s solution (solution 4 specifically) to the problem seems very well thought out, and I would personally like to see companies adopt it.  Really, it makes sense and it would work.

The second, which is linked to in the first, is also worth a read.  This one deals with microtransactions and how both Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network have both abandoned the “micro” part of microtransactions.  It asks why were prices like 25 cents and 75 cents thrown around at launch to get gamers interested in the concept, and now we see nearly no evidence of this.

It should also be mentioned that both articles are very well written, but they’re still easy to read.  Actually, the way the first article is written, it reminds me of my university case studies, only they’re not this fun.  Either way, hit these links for the articles. Enjoy and let us know what you think!
