Hasbro Bringing More Titles To XBLA

It was back in February when we made the prediction that Scrabble would be coming to the XBLA. Oh were we right…

EA has announced, under a Hasbro Family Game Night banner, games such as Scrabble (US and Canada only), Boggle, Battleship, Yahtzee, Connect Four, Sorry! Sliders, which will begin to roll out in Spring 2009. EA will showcase the highly anticipated lineup at the Consumer Electronics Show on January 8-11, 2009 in Las Vegas.

“We believe our Hasbro Family Game Night channel on Xbox LIVE Arcade will be one of the most dynamic and fun collections available on the platform,” said Chip Lange, General Manager of EA Hasbro. “We’ve been given the unique opportunity to create an exclusive EA Hasbro branded destination within the Xbox LIVE Arcade so players can easily find and play our lineup family-friendly digital board games. Just as families have game closets in their home, they will also be able to stock a digital game closet serving up hours of interactive play for kids and adults alike.”

All games will feature both original and new ways to play, including a Party Mode that features multiple mini-game versions of each title. Additional customization features will allow players to earn virtual trophies, furniture and themes to decorate their personal virtual game rooms. The Hasbro Family Game Night lineup will take full advantage of Xbox LIVE community features such as online play, Achievements, the ability to launch new games without leaving the environment, and sharing customized space with friends. The EA Hasbro virtual game closet is slated to open in Spring 2009 with multiple games followed by additional releases throughout the year.

"One of the most dynamic and fun collections available on the platform." Wow. Well, to his credit, there aren't that many true "collections" available on XBLA and the ones that come to mind that are available aren't much to talk about.

But I won't be sitting with bated breath for this series. "Begin to roll out in Spring 2009" seems as though each will be individually sold. And if that's the case, even at 400 MS points a pop (lowest base price for an XBLA game, not counting free ones) that's $30 for those 6 games mentioned. You could buy any pair of games like Castle Crashers, Banjo Kazooie, Braid, SFII:HFR, or three games like BC: ReArmed, Duke Nukem 3D, Geometry Wars 2 for the same price (and all those came out in the last 6 months).

I'm not sold as of yet, even with the tremendous success and strong personal satisfaction of Uno. Time will tell, in the next few days in fact, when they're unveiled.

I like these games. The bad thing, is it's not as fun doing local multiplayer, unless you keep running out of the room between turns.

This sounds like a great idea. Anyone heard about pricing for these?
