Call Of Duty: World at War Demo Is Out Later Today!

By | March 12, 2009 | Demos, Xbox 360 |

So what have we here?  Well, earlier tonight, Josh Olin, the Community Manager for Treyarch Twittered something that was pretty surprising, but quite exciting as well.  Here’s exactly what he said:

Xbox 360 exclusive demo of “Hard Landing” from our solo campaign releases tomorrow – fully co-op enabled!

Of course, the game he is talking about is none other than Call of Duty: World at War.  What you may not be familiar with if you haven’t played the game before, Hard Landing is the game’s 3rd campaign level.  Best of all, this game will be fully co-op enabled, meaning you won’t just be playing it alone, you can kick some tail with your friends!  Now, is that awesome or what?!

Update: It’s here! Add this Demo to your queue.

wow, that's pretty cool. Too bad I've already experienced the game or I would be way excited for this.

I agree. I'm a little surprised they are releasing the demo so long after the game is out.

Does anybody have any idea if making and releasing a demo is costly? If so, from a marketing standpoint, I don't think this was too wise of a decision. My logic is that anybody who was curious about the game and on-the-fence about buying it has most likely found another way of checking it out (via renting or friends, most likely) by now. I simply don't think that this demo will reach a wide, untapped market of gamers.

Hell, now that I think about it, I don't know if releasing the demo prior to the games' release would've resulted in a significant increase in sales. This franchise has such a loyal following that people pretty much knew right away if they were buying this or not.

From a programming standpoint, I don't think putting out a demo would be very hard if you had the final release version… To me it seems as simple as cutting the content you don't want out, while still keeping anything you might want in there…seems simple enough, which is why I don't understand when SOME dev's say they can't put out a demo because it's too much work. Some games that have solid levels like Halo 3, CODMW or CODWAW, should be relatively easy to rip a demo from, while other stuff like Mass Effect, I can understand how making a demo might be hard….

I'll play this demo just to see what the campaign's like… But after playing the Beta quite a bit, I REALLY did not like how the Modern Warfare game mechanics worked in a WWII setting…

@DJ – Then in that case, I imagine that Microsoft wanted too much money to let them put out a demo before release, and it just recently became reasonable.
