First off, let me get this out of the way. Yes the download is tiny, yes it should have came with the game, it’s shady, yada, yada, yada. Okay, now that that’s over with….

The Resident Evil 5 Versus DLC consists of two modes, Slayers and Survivors, each with free for all and 2 vs 2 variations. Both modes are basically Mercenaries modes with 2 more people, and the ability to kill one another for points. Survivors has you only getting points for killing other humans (deathmatch), and Slayers is a combination of the Survivors and Mercenaries modes

Survivors was only so-so to play as the different available characters really swings the balance in the game as different characters have different starting weapons. It’s hard to win when you are plain ‘ole Chris with a plain ‘ole pistol against 3 Weskers darting around with .50 cals  that kill you in 2 shots. The other characters (like Wesker) only become available after winning enough points to “purchase” them. Slayers works better, but still can be unbalanced as the biggest points you can get are for killing other humans. The best way to play was 2 vs 2 slayers, and even though you may end up getting killed more times by the other team, if you work together well enough, you can get a combo high enough on Manjini to win the match anyways.

Even though it is a bit of a hard pill to swallow seeing how similar the modes are to Mercenaries, for the only 5 dollar asking price, and how much fun it actually is, 5 bucks isn’t asking too much. I got more than 5 dollars of entertainment out of it, and for someone needing just a little bit more RE5 before they move on, this should fit the bill nicely. The different style of shooting in RE5 is a bit of fresh air in a multiplayer match, even if it does get old after a time.

In the end, quite enjoyable, but only for someone who really loved RE5, and yes, although, it is a bit shady, it’s still fun.
