By Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, and welcome to this weeks edition of XBLA Today. This week we have 3 games coming down to grace us with their presence: Arkanoid Live, Zombie Wranglers, and Space Invaders Extreme. How are they, is any of this worth wasting your precious time on? Let’s find out!
Let’s get the quick one out of the way first, Arkanoid Live is something you all have played before. It’s basically a brickbreaker game. Bounce the ball off your paddle on the bottom to break all the bricks up top. Simple, been done before, and unless you really really need another copy, let it be. It’s not worth 800 points. (I mean I have it on my phone for free… )
Next up is Zombie Wranglers. I’m not sure what to say about this one. You play as one of 4 kids that are the “Zombie Wranglers”, and you melee, shoot, and suck up Ghostbusters style zombies in a little cartoon town, with power-ups strewn about the city. All I can really say is this is proof that not all zombie games are going to be good. Check it out if you must, but you aren’t missing much. Zombie Wranglers is 800 points.
Last is Space Invaders Extreme. Thankfully this game also came out this week as there is now one game worth your attention. We all know the classic Space Invaders formula, enemies go across the screen, move down one, then the other direction, down one, and so on and so forth. If that was it, this game would also be a pass. However, the game has been redone with new graphics, new powerups, new music, and has turned into a new experience with a classic feel. This one is definitely worth at least trying out the demo, and will be a good purchase for some at 800 points.
