In America, we love Adrian Peterson, Larry Fitzgerald, and Tom Brady. In Europe, they can’t get enough of the likes of Wayne Rooney, Fernando Torres, and Thierry Henry. From the way it looks, they love their football more than our football. EA announced today that FIFA 10 has become the fastest selling sports title ever in the European market. This all happened before North America even got a shot at buying the game.
To earn this title, EA recorded 1.7 million retail sales through the game’s first week. Does this surprise us? At first glance, yes. After thinking about it, no. First, there’s less competition amongst major sports games in Europe. In North America, most consumers choose between Madden, two NBA games, two NHL games, etc. In Europe, most consumers probably aren’t inclined to buy many of these games, but instead eagerly await FIFA, the official video game of professional soccer around the world. Second, we know that they’re crazy about their footie across the pond.

Any of you cheeky blokes picking up FIFA 10? It’ll be available in North America on October 20th. If so, one thing’s for sure – you’ll have plenty of international competition.
