It’s the British Invasion all over again.
The Beatles: Rock Band has released to much critical and fan acclaim, with gamers all over the world taking up their plastic tools of rock and serenading their consoles to the timeless tunes of the Beatles greatest hits. With the Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band DLC just released and Rubber Soul coming out some time in December, the title is certainly hitting its stride.
VH1 is hoping to capitalize on this resurgence of Beatles-mania by teaming up with Harmonix and MTV in order to bring viewers a Christmas special of sorts. In honor of the massive creative effort put into not only making the game but in marketing and releasing it, VH1 will be airing “The Making of The Beatles: Rock Band”, a behind-the-scenes special which explores numerous aspects of this massive venture. The 30 minute program includes never before seen footage of Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr visiting Abbey Road Studios while receiving work-in-progress presentations from the Harmonix team.
The special will also include interviews with Giles Martin, co-producer of the LOVE album project and Music Supervisor for the game, as well as Alex Rigopulos, co-founder and CEO of Harmonix Music Systems. “We are also very excited that VH1 documented the making of The Beatles: Rock Band” says Paul DeGooyer, Senior VP of Electronic Games and Music for the MTV Networks Music Group. “Whether you are a Beatles fan, music game fan, or both, this VH1 special is a fascinating behind-the-scenes at look at this exciting project.”
Interviews with members of the development team will round out the program as VH1 explores the origins behind the game while giving viewers a look at the some of the effort it took to craft a title that could live up to the Beatles legend. Tune in November 27th on VH1 Classic at 7:30 PM ET/PT to enjoy what looks to be an intriguing glimpse at some of the work that went into this incredibly prolific music based title.
