I’m not a huge fan of horror games based on the singular principle that they will probably scare the hell out of me. That being said, when Dead Space came out a few years back, I couldn’t resist the sci-fi infused trip through extra-terrestrial terror that Irrational Games (Then EA Redwood Shores) released upon the world. Everything about the game screamed quality; from the creeping soundtrack, challenging disemberment mechanic, grotesque enemies, and derelict mining vessel that served as the game’s haunted house. I played that game all the way through for a couple of weeks straight, and for all the psychological damage it did me, I kept coming back for more.
Now Dead Space 2 is on the rise.
Click on the trailer and see what Irrational has in store for us in what is proving to be a much more psychological affair. Don’t get me wrong, there’s blood curdling monstrosities and the face-gnawing terrors of undead crew-members, but there’s also this underlying tone that our hero Isaac might be going just a little bit mad. With his dead girlfriend whispering at him that they aren’t finished yet, ghostly ramblings about strange runes, and what I believe is Isaac himself claiming that “there’s so much shit, up here in my head”….well….you gotta feel for the guy.
