Namco Generations Announced, More Retro Remakes On The Way

NAMCO BANDAI today announced Namco Generations, a brand of digitally distributed games on the Xbox Live Arcade and other similar services. Namco Generations games will reinvent favorite Namco franchises with high-definition graphics, enhanced gameplay features,and regularly updated community news.

“Namco Generations solidifies NAMCO BANDAI Games’ commitment to provide high quality and compelling content through the digital space,” said Carlson Choi, vice president of marketing for NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc.  “NAMCO BANDAI holds a rich heritage of classic games that shaped the early history of the video game industry.  They defined what arcade games should be, and set the benchmark for retro revivals with PAC-MAN Championship Edition™ and Galaga Legions™.  NAMCO BANDAI Games will continue to raise that bar with Namco Generations.”

The Namco Generations brand aims to connect generations of gamers from around the world, reimagining classic Namco games for a new era of fans.  Players of all ages will be able to re-discover cultural phenomena, famed classics and forgotten gems with updated graphics and exciting new features.  Namco Generations titles will be updated regularly with Namco Generation News, a newsletter that allows developers to reach out to the community with behind-the-scene information, insider tips, and other special announcements.  Players will be able to access the latest community news through the main menu of any Namco Generations title.

PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX, the follow-up to 2007’s award-winning Xbox LIVE Arcade title, will be the first game available under the Namco Generations label when it is released on November 17 for Xbox Live Arcade.  Additional titles in development include Galaga Legions DX and Aero-Cross, a reimagining of Namco’s 1985 arcade hit, Metro-Cross.

More classic franchise revival announcements can be expected throughout 2011.
