Metro 2033 was a game that managed to pique my personal radar, but somehow the Soviet post-apocalyptic FPS slipped through my fingers and became lost amidst the ever shifting sands of Stuff I Always Meant to Do. Seems that publisher THQ and developer 4A Games haven’t forgotten the darkly realistic franchise, however, as you can see from the teaser above.
Entitled Metro Last Light, the game serves as a direct sequel occurring nearly a year after the events of the first title. Slated for release sometime next year, the game boasts a similarly claustrophobic and bullet-conserving atmosphere to its predecessor along with an increased arsenal of hand-made weaponry and even more terrifying enemies, both mutant and human, lurking in the darkness. Players can look forward to exploring the atmospheric environs of the Moscow metro-system once again, although the game is boasting next-gen technology capable of creating stunning lighting and physics effects.

Additional METRO LAST LIGHT screenshots can be viewed here!
Along for the ride is a new multi-player system (an absolute must for any self respecting sequel these days), and a new plot thread that reads as follows:
It is the year 2034. Beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, the remnants of mankind are besieged by deadly threats from outside – and within.
Mutants stalk the catacombs beneath the desolate surface, and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above. But rather than stand united, the station-cities of the Metro are locked in a struggle for the ultimate power, a doomsday device from the military vaults of D6. A civil war is stirring that could wipe humanity from the face of the earth forever.
As Artyom, burdened by guilt but driven by hope, you hold the key to our survival – the last light in our darkest hour…
So there you have it. I for one am interested, seeing as how the original’s blend of FPS/ Survival- Horror amidst a bombed out Russian landscape seemed to be a bit more original than what was on the market at the time. Anyone else have any personal experience with the game and thoughts on this attempt at revisiting that universe?
