Twelve years ago, Valve said let there be Counter-Strike beta, and there was much rejoicing. Today, Valve has announced that soon there will be a touch of CS added to XBLA.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO), will tout new characters, weapons, and new maps as well as updated maps, including everyone’s favorite, Dust. In addition, there will be new game play modes, matchmaking, and leaderboards.
Doug Lombardi, VP of Marketing at Valve said,
Counter-Strike took the gaming industry by surprise when the unlikely MOD became the most played online PC action game in the world almost immediately after its release in August 1999. For the past 12 years, it has continued to be one of the most-played games in the world, headline competitive gaming tournaments and selling over 25 million units worldwide across the franchise. CS: GO promises to expand on CS’ award-winning gameplay and deliver it to gamers on the [Xbox 360].
CS: GO is being developed by Valve in cooperation with Seattle-based Hidden Path Entertainment. It was also announced that it will be playable at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo, and there was much rejoicing.
Anyone who has played Counter-Strike in the past knows it is famous for rampant cheating. Being on Xbox LIVE however, maybe players will get a bit of actual fair play in every now and again? Only time will tell.
