With today’s Friday Funday blog post of the day, PopCap Games listed some of their more popular games and the titles that they were almost given.  It has been said before that Bejeweled was originally named “Diamond Mine”, but there are a few more examples worth mentioning.

Most notably, Plants vs. Zombies was originally slated to be titled “Lawn of the Dead”, an obvious take on George Romero’s classic “Dawn of the Dead”.  Other working names for Plants vs. Zombies were “Morticulture”, “Bloom & Doom”, and “Zombotony”.

Other examples provided by PopCap are Peggle being titled “Thunderball”, and “Pego” — a name that it held up until mere weeks before release.  Also, Zuma was almost given the name “Enter the Frog”.

It’s refreshing to see a studio give a look at their creative process, and the things that didn’t quite work.  It seems as if the creative cogs are always moving at 100% over at PopCap.
