The Xbox LIVE Marketplace has introduced many different outfits, props, and random additions to the Avatar store, but none are as cool as what was released today. New mascot heads are now available for a select group of Universities, which will allow you to pay 240 Microsoft Points (or $2 dollars) in exchange for your favorite mascot heads.

For San Diego Comic Con goers, 343 Industries is going to be at the show and doing their own panel.  “Halo Universe Panel with 343 Industries” is on Friday July 22 from 11:30am-12:30pm in Room 6BCF.  The panel’s set to touch on the first 1- years of Halo‘s existence and where the franchise is going from here on out.

On Saturday,  April 23, they will be attempting to join hands across the world and break the Guinness World Record for the ‘largest online 100m sprint’ via Kinect Sports and Xbox LIVE.

We have a bit of a problem.  You see, we love Kinecting around our living rooms with complete disregard for roommates and neighbors alike.  However, lately, we’ve been feeling somewhat lethargic, a bit unmotivated, if you will.  Luckily, we think we have the cure (besides “more cowbell”).  Xbox recently unveiled a slick new way to have your digital representation always be right there as your personal, stationary cheerleader.

Just announced, Xbox has three new ways to integrate your LIVE Avatar moreso into your everyday life.  The first of these is a Fathead of your Avatar that you can stick just about anywhere in your house.  These come in four sizes, so prices vary.  The second is a FigurePrint, which is a figurine of your Avatar striking a pose.  These look really cool and run about $50.  The last offering is the new ability to get your Avatar etched into the back of your Zune.

Interesting Fact: that is actually double the amount of original Xbox consoles sold during the last generation’s lifetime.

Another cool bit of trivia was the announcement that Xbox LIVE now supports 30 million active LIVE users, with an estimated new member joining the service every two seconds! Am I the only one who finds that concept insane?!

Chief executive Steve Ballmer also took a moment to make some announcements concerning what lies ahead for the Xbox360 console and Kinect. Here’s a look at some of the highlights:

• ESPN on Xbox LIVE: showcasing more of this much touted partnership, Microsoft claims that users will be able to watch over 3500 live and on-demand  sporting events from ESPN3.com while viewing highlights from ESPN.com.
• Avatar Kinect: Available this Spring, users will be able to control your Avatar’s movements and facial expressions via the Kinect. What this translates into exactly in terms of gameplay elements is still a mystery to me, but Gold Members can look forward to obtaining this add-on for free once it arrives.
• Netlfix and Hulu-Plus: A fun bit of info for movie and television watchers out there was a demonstration of Kinect enhanced Netlfix and Hulu.  This is sure to be a big hit with Kinect owners, seeing as how the libraries of these applications are just begging to be “waved” through.

For those who are looking for something out of this world, Xbox LIVE members can soon get their hands on a very special and exclusive Avatar Pet – a Chocobo, from one of the best-selling worldwide franchises, FINAL FANTASY. In celebration of the release of FINAL FANTASY XIII on Xbox 360 on March 9, 2010 in North America and Europe, for a limited time only, Xbox LIVE users who register on the Xbox.com/FFXIII page will be eligible to receive a download code in their inbox for the Chocobo pet this Holiday season.

Valve confirmed that the awards include a health pack for your avatar, a host of L4D2 shirts and Rochelle’s pretty pink Depeche Mode t-shirt, among other gifts.

There will be nine avatar awards. Six have been confirmed so far.

• Left 4 Dead 2 Shirt #2 – A Left 4 Dead 2 shirt earned by winning 10 games of Scavenge
